Group Chief Legal and Regulatory Affairs Officer
Professional Background
Lele Modise is an accomplished legal executive with extensive experience in corporate law, governance, regulatory affairs, and financial markets. She has served as Group Chief Legal and Regulatory Affairs Officer (CLRO) of MTN Group since February 2022, having previously held the position of Group Chief Legal Counsel from August 2019.
In her role, Lele leads MTN’s Legal and Regulatory Affairs function across Africa and the Middle East, providing strategic counsel on major corporate transactions, mergers and acquisitions, investments, and complex regulatory matters.
She oversees key areas including corporate finance and restructuring, dispute resolution, compliance, and public policy engagement, ensuring that MTN’s operations align with evolving legal and regulatory frameworks across its markets.
Before joining MTN, Lele held senior legal and advisory positions within the banking and corporate sectors, where she developed deep expertise in securities law, banking regulation, and financial markets. Her leadership is instrumental in supporting MTN’s strategic ambitions through robust governance, regulatory stewardship, and legal innovation.
Qualifications
Lele holds a BProc (LLB Exemption) from the University of Pretoria, as well as certificates in Securities Law and Banking Law and Financial Markets. She also holds a Master’s degree in Banking Law from the University of South Africa (UNISA).
