Mass action to end violence against women and girls
Launched on Valentine’s Day in 2012, the campaign began as a call to action in response to the shocking fact that 1 in 3 women worldwide will experience abuse or sexual violence in their lifetime. The campaign is active in 200 countries and has been running in Eswatini since 2013.

The Community Circles Program empowers Eswatini’s communities to tackle Gender-Based Violence (GBV) with community-driven solutions in line with the country’s national strategy.

Thanks to MTN Eswatini Foundation’s support, 1 Billion Rising has empowered 4384 community members, formulated successful strategies, and established 30 Gender-Based Violence Community Circles (GBVCCs), including 10 MTN-funded GBVCCs. The program provides support, guidance, and self-sustaining small business training.

The collaborative technology solution between MTN and 1 Billion Rising aims to achieve the following: (1) To use the power of technology and connectivity to put an end to GBV. (2) To provide information on human rights, GBV-related issues, gender equality, and family law to rural communities and its members. (3) To offer emergency aid and referral services to those in need. (4) To work towards changing people’s mindset in relation to women’s human rights, gender equality, and to promote economic empowerment among women at a grassroots community level. (5) To share stories of success and challenges related to the fight against GBV within the designated community.

"One Billion Rising Eswatini is proud to partner with MTN in cultivating care and committing to end violence towards All Women and Girls. Thank you for your support in creating innovative solutions to address these challenges."
